Remote ID rules for Part 107 pilots
Remote ID rules are in 14 CFR Part 89. Most drones that must be registered also need Remote ID, either built in ("standard Remote ID") or through an add-on broadcast module.
What a standard Remote ID drone broadcasts
- Its identity: serial number or a session ID
- Latitude, longitude and altitude of the drone and of the control station
- Velocity, a UTC time mark, and emergency status
It must broadcast from takeoff to shutdown, at least once per second. The pilot's name isn't broadcast.
If the broadcast stops
Land as soon as practicable.
Flying without Remote ID
Only inside an FAA-Recognized Identification Area (FRIA), with both the drone and pilot inside its boundaries. A FRIA lasts 48 calendar months after approval.
