Part 107 night flying rules (no waiver needed)
- Training: you must have completed the initial test or recurrent training updated after April 6, 2021.
- Lighting: anti-collision lights visible for at least 3 statute miles, with a flash rate that avoids collisions.
- Civil twilight counts too: the same lighting is required. In the contiguous U.S., civil twilight is the 30 minutes before official sunrise and the 30 minutes after official sunset. You may dim the lights for safety, but not turn them off.
- Controlled airspace still needs authorization, day or night.
