How to schedule the Part 107 test, step by step

Updated October 2026 · Written from official FAA sources
  1. Check you're eligible: at least 16, able to read, speak, write and understand English, and no condition that would interfere with safe operation.
  2. Get your FTN. Create an account in IACRA, the FAA's airman certification system. It gives you an FAA Tracking Number, which you need to book.
  3. Find a testing center on PSI's site and choose the test "Unmanned Aircraft General – Small" (UAG) for an initial certificate.
  4. Book about two weeks out. Many centers are small and fill up.
  5. Pay the fee (about $175; confirm when booking). It's non-refundable.
  6. After you pass, you get your Airman Knowledge Test Report, then apply for your certificate in IACRA. A temporary certificate can be issued for up to 120 days until the permanent one arrives.
See where you stand. The free 20-question diagnostic covers every test area and shows your weak topics.
